Fight for Our Libraries!

I am in this beautiful elementary school library that is EMPTY, because the school librarian has to split her time between FOUR SCHOOLS. This is NOT OK! Kids NEED exposure to books BY A DEDICATED, KNOWLEDGEABLE PROFESSIONAL who can get the right books into the right kids’ hands at the right time.

A Lady Has the Floor: Belva Lockwood Speaks Out for Women's Rights

Written by my friend and fellow Chicago-area author Kate Hannigan, “A Lady Has the Floor: Belva Lockwood Speaks Out for Women's Rights” is a GORGEOUS nonfiction picture book biography of Belva Lockwood, a lawyer, activist and presidential candidate who devoted her life to overcoming obstacles and demanding equality for women. Illustrated by Alison Jay. ❤️

ETHAN LONG

A set of five “Goodnight, Goodnight, Construction Site” board books will be out soon — with themes of colors, numbers, shapes, alphabet and opposites — all illustrated by my friend, the talented (and kid-at-heart) Ethan Long. When I saw this sketch for the opposites book this morning, I LITERALLY laughed out loud. 😃

Tiny Gets a Shout Out!

Honored and thrilled by @hereweeread for this great shoutout!!! (Repost)
..
Tiny and the Big Dig is a fun rhyming read aloud with colorful illustrations...perfect for storytime! I love the overall message of believing in yourself and avoiding negative talk from the naysayers.
..
Not only did Tiny believe in himself, but so did his kid owner, a cute little Black boy. He cheered little Tiny on until the very end.
..
Great for showing kids it doesn’t matter how small you are to accomplish goals or make a difference. Recommended for ages 3-5. Have you read this one yet? 👇🏾#tinyandthebigdig @scholasticinc

Fun Surprises!

The handle of my purse broke on the road, so I ran into a little boutique to see if I could find a replacement to get me through. No luck on the purse, but I did find this. 😀

Walk Out and Say No More!

A protest walk-out at my son’s high school in the icy rain: 17 minutes for 17 lives. I hold high hopes for this generation — their ability to communicate, inform and mobilize is unlike anything we’ve seen. This might just be the generation to save us from ourselves.
